     “For  exceptionally  meritorious  conduct  in the performance of outstanding service in connection with the operation of the Military Affiliate Radio System (MARS) in the I Corps Tactical  Zone  in  the Republic of Vietnam.   Since inception of the MARS operation in the I Corps Tactical Zone with an original four stations,  the operation  has grown to a total  of sixteen stations, one of which is located aboard the Hospital Ship REPOSE.  These stations have completed in excess of 133,000 phone patches and processed in excess of 220,000  messages.  This extraordinary performance, which has greatly  enhanced the morale of combat personnel in the I Corps Tactical Zone, has been made possible only by the skillful and devoted efforts of MARS operators in the United States. Your selfless dedication, exceptional skill and dependable cooperation are sincerely appreciated.
