MCAS El Toro, Santa Ana, CA

Construction began on MCAS El Toro on August 3, 1942 and major portions were completed in December 1942 with the official commissioning taking place March 17, 1943.  By 1950 station W6FCS appears in the Amateur Call Book registered to El Toro Amateur Radio Club, Ray E Baumann, Trustee, Building B-6-3 MCAS Santa Ana.  The stations first MARS designation was N0RSB.  In 1970 the MARS call became N0MET.

Arial View of El Toro - So where is the MARS Station - Someone help us out!!

MCAS El Toro was closed and abandoned in July, 1999 most of its elements moving to MCAS Miramar.  W6FCS is now the personal call sign of John McNiel, John rescued the call sign and was an operator at El Toro in the early 1960's.    N0RSB has been assigned to Michael G Secord and N0MET assigned to Gregory S Nelson.   (01/01/2005)
