Was assigned to the MARS
station out of tech school. Probably the most memorable experience was
when President Kennedy's plane, AF1, called to let us know he would be
landing in a few and taking a chopper to the hospital. At that time I
didn't have a clue who AF1 was. Had to look it up in the call book. We
were in the hospital complex, so we saw him quite a bit when he was
visiting Jackie when she had John. We use to eat lunch with his secret
service people.
Got me familiar with radio
operations. I have enjoyed the use of radio comm over the years. It’s
nice to meet people you have talked with.
