Wilfred E. “Bub” Mowrey, 83, of Lambden Avenue, Winchester, VA died
Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003, at his home.
Mr.
Mowrey was born March 16, 1920, in Winchester, the son of Hugh Jackson and
Virginia Marie Randall Mowrey. He had been a self-employed jeweler and
watchmaker for many years and had worked for Caulkins Jewelry Store for
more than 19 years. He was a graduate of Handley High School and attended
Furman College.
He was
an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.
He was
a musician and played saxophone and clarinet with several bands in the
area. He was a member of Braddock Street United Methodist Church and a
member of the Clinton Masonic Lodge 86 of Romney, W.Va., for 53 years. He
was a former member of Shenandoah Valley Amateur Radio Club and a 40-year
member of Military Affiliate Radio System.
He
married Mildred E. Parrish on July 6, 1948, in Hagerstown, Md.
Surviving with his wife are a son, Wilfred P. Mowrey of Westminster, Md.;
a daughter, Barbara J. Fisher of Lynchburg; a brother, Jack Mowrey of
Manitou, Ky.; six grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
A
daughter, Carol Ann Mowrey; a sister, Matilda Mowrey; and a brother,
Stewart Mowrey, are deceased.
A
funeral will be 1 p.m. Friday at Jones Funeral Home, Winchester, with the
Rev. Thomas H. Keithley and the Rev. William R. Fisher officiating. Burial
will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery.
