My CO at Marine Corps Schools, NAS Memphis, found out that I had a ham license and took me over to meet the guys that hung out at W4ODR, "Whiskey 4 Old Dusty Rebels" and it all came from there.  I didn't know there were hams in the Corps until then. 

Found my way to the Mars station on Okinawa after requesting a transfer to Okinawa in late 1960. 

It was fun - & I enjoyed working with the guys that needed our service to get with the folks back home.
