Subj:  Operation of the U.S. Navy HAM Booth during the

       AFCEA National Convention; appreciation of

Encl:  (1) AFCEA General Manager, Colonel W. J, Baird's ltr of 6 July 1962

  1. During the period, 12-14 June 1962, you assisted the Office of Naval Communications in operating an amateur radio station for the benefit of the delegates to the Sixteenth National Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA) Convention.  This booth captured the interest of over 3000 visitors and brought the convention to the attention of amateur radio operators throughout the world.

  2. Since the K4NAA station was manned by representatives of each of the Armed Services, it presented an outstanding example of service cooperation to the assembled industrial and military leaders of the United States' communications and electronics efforts.

  3. The General Manager of the National Headquarters of AFCEA has requested this office to express the Association's appreciation for the HAM station's contribution to the unparalleled success of this convention.  A copy of Colonel Baird's letter is forwarded as enclosure (1).

  4. The Director, Naval Communications wishes to add his appreciation and congratulations on an excellent demonstration of communications proficiency.

  5. WELL DONE.
