Originally
constructed as a temporary depot in the early days of World War II, the
Naval Construction Battalion Center, Port Hueneme, California, is a
veteran of World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and Operation
Desert Shield/Storm. In the early days of World War II, CBC was
established to train, stage and supply the newly created Naval
Construction Force "Seabees". Since then, the Seabees and the Center have
made history together. Officially established May 18, 1942, during World
War II, the center was responsible for the staging and shipping of 20
million measurement tons of supplies and equipment and more than 200
thousand men needed in support of the war effort. More construction
supplies and equipment were shipped from Port Hueneme than from any other
port in the United States. The Naval Construction Battalion Center (CBC),
Port Hueneme, California, is the west coast homeport of the Navy’s mobile
construction force. CBC supports the training and mobilization
requirements for more than 2,600 active duty personnel. The CBC also
operates a 1,600-acre naval base. |
