John 'Bob' Vota - WB1FDY - of Centerdale, RI has died following a long
battle with cancer. Bob, or Fat Dumb Yankee as he liked to
phoneticise, was a Ham loved by all that entered his log. He held an
Extra class license and was considered an Elmer by many. In his time
as a Ham he held many positions, he held the post of RI Section Manager
for the 1985-87 term, he was a past President of Providence Radio
Association, (W1OP), Trustee of the Quohaug Repeater Network, former State
Director of the Army MARS program. He was also State Director for the New
England Spectrum Management Council. In 1982 Bob founded the
Northern RI Radio Club, he also was a Trustee for the club for many of the
years.
He was survived by
his wife Elaine, KA1PID, and 2 sons, Bob KA1QYF and Bill KA1QYE
